About the museum
The museum houses material from the excavations of the Roman farmstead villa at Poggio Gramignano, carried out by the University of Arizona between 1988 and 1992 on the hill near Lugnano in Teverina. The villa was built in the 1st century BC with a colonnaded reception hall and a production area, and was abandoned between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD.
In the 5th century AD the production area was reused as a cemetery. Dozens of children who died during a malaria epidemic were buried there, in some cases inside amphorae. So far only part of the building has been excavated.
The display features wall plaster, mosaics, architectural terracottas, stamped roof tiles, glass, bronze tools, kitchen ceramics and amphorae.
