About the museum
The Museo civico archeologico di Taurasi preserves the evidence of the earliest settlement in the territory of Taurasi and Mirabella Eclano, in the middle Calore valley. The finds come from excavations carried out in the mid-1990s in contrada San Martino.
The site has yielded some of the most significant Eneolithic remains in Campania: numerous huts of varying shapes and sizes, dating from about 4,500–4,000 years ago, with dry-stone perimeter walls that supported wooden upper structures, which have not survived.
The displays include impasto pottery vessels, stone tools and numerous cinerary urns recovered during the excavations.
