About the museum
The Museo Casa Deriu in Tresnuraghes is a journey into Sardinian society of the 19th century. The old residence, built in the 18th century as the home of one of the village’s notaries, has kept the charm of a historic house to this day and takes its name from the last family to own it. The museum was established by the municipality and opened in 2017.
On the ground floor several living spaces of a middle-class family of the period have been reconstructed, with the original furniture that remained in the house and everyday objects, supplemented by information about the period drawn from the magazines of the time. The house also preserves part of its original furnishings, around a thousand volumes on legal, theological and other subjects published between the late 17th century and the early 20th century, and a documentary collection.
The most interesting part of the display is the historic periodicals archive (emeroteca) on the first floor: a vast collection of 19th-century magazines and newspapers, regarded as the most complete and well-organised collection of old periodicals in Sardinia. The route is organised by theme, from news reporting to politics, satire, art, literature and illustrated magazines, and may change depending on temporary exhibitions. The museum also offers educational workshops inspired by active learning methods.
