About the museum
Casa Deriu overlooks the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, in the heart of Bosa’s historic centre, in the Sa Piatta area near the Temo river. The palazzo, formed by joining existing houses, bears the date 1838 on its portal and has two façade doors decorated with columns of local red trachyte; the entrance hall features three arches typical of old Bosa houses.
The museum is spread over several floors. The first floor hosts temporary exhibitions on local traditions and a room devoted to craftsmanship, in particular Bosa filet, hand-embroidered lace worked on a net. The piano nobile (main floor) is an intact example of a 19th-century family home of a wealthy family, with largely original furnishings and a circular route through the drawing room, bedroom, dining room and other rooms. The museum also documents the local manufacturing tradition linked to the tanneries along the Temo.
On the top floor is the civic “Melkiorre Melis” collection, bequeathed by the painter’s heirs to the municipality of Bosa in 1989. The same ticket also admits visitors to the Pinacoteca Antonio Atza in the building opposite. Since 2025 the museum has been run by the Fondazione Bosa, which has its operational headquarters here.
