About the museum
The archaeological record of Rutigliano, a Peucetian centre known as Azetium, comes from excavations and research carried out in the area. The Museo civico archeologico “Grazia e Pietro Di Donna”, on Piazza XX Settembre, holds finds from the prehistoric and classical periods.
The objects on display derive from private collections donated to the municipality, including the Catamo, Colamussi, Didonna and Dioguardi collections. The route links ancient terracotta production with the modern ceramic art that characterises Rutigliano's craftsmanship, especially the whistles (fischietti), and shows the continuity of clay working up to the present day.
The collection plays an educational role for schools and gives visitors a foundation for learning about the ancient history of the area.
