About the museum
The museum is named after Isidoro Falchi, the figure associated with the first archaeological investigations at Vetulonia. The MuVet, Museo Civico Archeologico, is located in the small village of Vetulonia, a hamlet of Castiglione della Pescaia, and is the starting point for discovering the “diffuse archaeological area”, which includes the Etruscan walls, the residential quarters and the necropolises.
The route extends over seven rooms on two floors. Room A, devoted to Isidoro Falchi and the first investigations, displays Villanovan grave goods from the 9th–8th century BC, with biconical cinerary vessels and hut urns, and the Orientalising finds from the tombs of the Circolo dei Leoncini d’Argento and the Fibula d’Oro, together with the stele of the warrior Auvele Feluske, which has become the logo of the museum. Room B presents the tomb of the Circolo delle Pellicce, the monumental tomb of Diavolino II, the goldwork of the Lancetti collection and the first evidence of the Archaic period, with Attic ceramics, buccheri, helmets and a bronze kottabos.
Rooms C and D are devoted to the territory, with finds from the tumulus of Poggio Pelliccia and the necropolis of Val Berretta. On the lower floor, Rooms E–G illustrate the Hellenistic and Roman periods, with architectural terracottas from the temple of Costa Murata and the atrium of the Casa di Medea. Every year the museum organises educational workshops and themed guided tours.
