Through November 8, 2026
Exhibition of paintings for the centenary of the birth of the painter Ferriano Giardini, curated by Paolo Trioschi and Giorgio Giardini.
The museum is housed in a building in the historic centre of Fusignano, on the site where the Hospitale dè pellegrini, designed by Giacinto Corelli, stood in 1517. The present building was erected towards the end of the 18th century as a hospital for the town’s poor and opened in 1796. The façade on Piazza Emaldi was restored by the architect Alberto Legnani after the nearby church of San Rocco was destroyed in the Second World War. The upper floor contains a hall with columns and statues of the praying Madonna and Saint Roch by Paolo Visani of Cotignola (1865).
The municipality turned the building into a civic museum at the beginning of the 2000s. The core of the collections is the collection of devotional images and ceramics donated by Sergio Baroni: over two hundred pieces from the 16th to the 20th century, mostly from Emilia-Romagna and other Italian regions, with two foreign examples, one French and one Spanish. Since 2001 the collection has been expanded with a section on southern Italy, which includes large painted Neapolitan majolica from the 18th and 19th centuries, with the Madonna del Carmine, the Deposition and the Trinity.
On the first floor, the permanent exhibition “La terra e lo spirito”, curated by the architect Antonio Ravalli and opened in 2019, tells the story of Fusignano through images and objects and devotes a section to the local artists Annibale Luigi Bergamini, Francesco Verlicchi and Raoul Vistoli.
Admission is free.
