About the museum
The Apricena municipal museum arose from the collaboration between the local section of Archeoclub d'Italia, the municipal administration and the Gargano National Park. Over time Archeoclub gathered the finds from the area and urged the administrations to find a suitable site.
The museum is in Palazzo Paolicelli, an eighteenth-century building in the historic centre, now publicly owned, renovated with funding from the Gargano National Park and opened in March 2010 as the “Palazzo della cultura” (Palace of Culture). The complex also houses the municipal library, the historical archive and the media library dedicated to Frederick II, and is managed by Archeoclub.
The route runs from prehistory (Palaeolithic and Bronze Age) through the Daunian and Hellenistic periods to the Roman era, and includes a medieval section with a panel devoted to Celestine V and a thematic museum on Frederick II.
