About the museum
The museum is located in Borgo Celano, a hamlet of San Marco in Lamis, in the Gargano National Park and near the Foresta Umbra. It was established in an area where dinosaur footprints dating back about 120–130 million years have been identified, which make the territory important for the study of Apulian prehistory.
The facility is run by the company Green Solutions and works together with the Comune di San Marco in Lamis and the Gargano National Park. The route combines an indoor and an outdoor part, designed for families and schools.
In the museum, illustrated panels, films and dioramas based on scientific studies tell the story of the evolution of dinosaurs; genuine fossils and footprints found in Italy are on display. Outside, a path immersed in nature crosses a reconstructed prehistoric landscape, with plants, pools of water, life-size replicas and original footprints from the San Marco in Lamis area.
