About the museum
The civic museum occupies Palazzo Sgadari, a 19th-century building in the centre of Gangi. The area is linked to the ancient city of Engyon, known for its temple and for the cult of the Mother Goddesses. The archaeological section presents finds from the Archaic to the Early Christian period, the most important of which date to the 7th and 6th centuries BC. The four rooms are divided into a didactic sector and a topographical one.
On the first floor, since 2001, is the Pinacoteca Gianbecchina, with works donated to the Comune di Gangi by the Sicilian painter, including the “Ciclo del Pane” (Bread Cycle). On the second floor is the museum of arms, which originated from a donation made by Giuseppe Franco to the Comune in 2007.
