About the museum

The museum is housed in the Palazzo Romanazzi Carducci, in the old town of Putignano. The building was once the seat of the bailiff (balì) of the Order of St John of Jerusalem; after the abolition of feudalism in 1806 it passed to the State, and later became the residence of the Romanazzi Carducci family. In his will of 1967 the last heir, Guglielmo (1881–1968), who had taken the title of prince on marrying Princess Giulia Saluzzo di Corigliano in 1904, left the palace to the Municipality so that it could be turned into a museum.

The museum opened to the public on 4 February 2017. The main floor (piano nobile) retains its original furnishings and comprises some twenty rooms with period furniture, decorative objects and paintings from the 17th to the 20th century. The route also houses the civic collection of the Putignano-born sculptor Giuseppe Albano (1899–1967), who worked between Apulia and Florence, the collection of weapons that belonged to Prince Guglielmo, and the family silverware.
