About the museum
The museum is housed in the Cantina Albea, one of Alberobello's oldest wine cellars, founded in the early 20th century. The building is entirely made of stone and keeps wine cisterns cut into the rock, built in the same way as water tanks in the past. Besides wine production, the cellar allows visitors to explore the history of wine through its walls and the traces preserved in the processing rooms.
The collection consists of ancient farm tools from various periods and traces the cultivation methods and winemaking traditions of Apulia, handed down from generation to generation. The route takes visitors from older practices, such as vine pruning, the grape harvest and work in the cellar, through to the modern winemaking techniques used today.
Visits can be complemented by guided tastings of local wines and tours of the surrounding vineyards. A virtual tour of the museum is also available on the cellar's website.
