About the museum
The civic museum is housed in the 17th-century Palazzo Bonomi-Gera, which was bought and restored by the sculptor Uno Gera, a native of Ripatransone, and given to the town in the 1960s. It brings together several sections: the civic picture gallery, the plaster cast gallery, the historical and ethnographic museum, the Risorgimento room dedicated to Luigi Mercantini and a contemporary art gallery.
The civic picture gallery was founded in 1877 by Canon Cesare Cellini and holds about a thousand works by some seventy artists, from the 15th century to today. They come largely from religious congregations suppressed in 1866 and from donations by local noble families. Notable are the panels by Vittore Crivelli, the paintings by Vincenzo Pagani, the frescoes by Giacomo da Campli and works by Cola dell’Amatrice and Francesco Coghetti, as well as a collection of more than 300 majolica and porcelain pieces in the Salone delle Feste (Hall of Festivities).
The Uno Gera plaster cast gallery, opened in 1976 on the piano nobile, holds about one hundred plaster casts by the sculptor, mainly portraits, made between the 1920s and the 1970s. The historical and ethnographic museum displays coins, Risorgimento and First World War memorabilia, costumes, ethnographic objects from every continent and about 200 weapons. The room dedicated to Pericle Fazzini houses thirty works donated by the artist, including bronzes, pastels, etchings and screen prints. There is also a room for Luciano Neroni, the Museo della Tradizione Garibaldina (Museum of the Garibaldian Tradition) and the exhibition “40 Artisti per il Presepe” (40 Artists for the Nativity Scene).
