About the museum
The museum complex occupies the rooms of the Franciscan convent of Montefiore dell'Aso, a complex from the late 13th century with a first cloister of 1303 and a second of 1544. After years of abandonment and various uses, it was restored in the early 2000s to house museums and archives.
The Sala Carlo Crivelli brings together the panels of the Renaissance polyptych painted around 1471, which remained at Montefiore after the work was dismembered in the 19th century. The Museo Adolfo De Carolis holds sketches, studies and woodcuts by the painter born in the town, including materials for the cycle in the Palazzo del Podestà in Bologna.
The route is completed by the print collection of Domenico Cantatore, the museum of rural life with around four hundred tools and objects, the Centro di documentazione scenografica Giancarlo Basili and historical archives.
