About the museum
The Antiquarium comunale “Niccola Pansoni” is housed in a room of the church of the Annunziata (13th century), in the historic centre of Cossignano, and takes its name from the local historian Niccola Pansoni. The original core of the collection dates back to the 1920s and comes from the collection that Pansoni's heirs donated to the municipality.
The display, in a single room arranged chronologically and with an educational focus, presents Picene material recovered through surveys and excavations in the necropolises of contrada Fiorano and contrada Colle and in the area of the ancient settlement, which coincides with today's historic centre. The finds cover the period from the 7th to the 5th century BC and document the everyday life of the Picenes of southern Marche.
The collection includes kitchen ceramics, ornaments, jewellery, tools and weapons, and is completed by reconstruction drawings and explanatory panels in Italian and English. The same building also houses the Museo civico di arte sacra.
