About the museum
The Bitonto municipal museum is housed in the historic Palazzo Rogadeo, in Via Rogadeo, and is named after Eustachio Rogadeo. The institution shares its premises with the municipal library, which holds incunabula, sixteenth-century printed books and parchments.
The archaeological section displays protohistoric, pre-Classical and Classical material from the area, including Apulian red-figure bell kraters of the 4th century BC. The numismatic collection includes Greek, Roman, Byzantine, medieval and modern coins. Among the most prized pieces is a rare illuminated reproduction of the Bible of Borso d'Este, bound in leather with filigree gold and silver fittings.
