About the museum
The Antiquarium di Castrum Truentinum was inaugurated on 12 August 2009 and is the museum of the town of Martinsicuro. It is located within the sixteenth-century monumental complex of the Torrione di Carlo V and the Casa Doganale (customs house), where it keeps and displays archaeological finds from the municipal territory.
The Torrione was built in 1547 to defend the coast against Saracen raids and later served as a customs house. The name of the museum refers to Castrum Truentinum, the Roman settlement at the mouth of the Tronto from which present-day Martinsicuro descends. The museum also offers educational activities, for example ceramics workshops for schools, and guided tours by reservation.
