About the museum
The museum is set up in a room of the cloister of the sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Monteprandone, a Franciscan convent complex built at the wish of San Giacomo della Marca with the authorisation of Pope Nicholas V of 22 August 1449. The church preserves the incorrupt body of the saint, who was born in Monteprandone, and the 16th-century cloister is decorated with frescoes dedicated to his life.
The collection, also called the Museo Sistino and included in the circuit of the Musei Sistini del Piceno, is dedicated to the saint and holds in particular objects connected with him, such as his chalice, vestments, seals and manuscripts of devotional value.
Among the works on display are an ivory triptych from the early 15th century, a gilded and painted carved wooden reliquary bust of the saint made in Naples between 1612 and 1615, a Stations of the Cross from the first half of the 18th century from the Franciscan church, and objects of Chinese manufacture brought by Franciscan missionaries at the beginning of the 20th century.
