About the museum
The Museo Trappeto Maratea is the main exhibition space in Vico del Gargano. It is located in the medieval village, inside an ancient trappeto, an olive mill, dating back to the 14th century. It helps visitors understand the local culture, in which olive growing and work in the mill were the basis of people’s livelihoods.
The hall, 32.25 metres long and between 3.50 and 5.50 metres wide, is divided into two areas: in one are the wooden presses used to press the olives, the millstone and other tools for oil production and farm work; in the other, an oil tank, a storeroom and a stable. Other displays illustrate everyday objects and the monastic kitchen, where the mill workers would take their meals.
