About the museum
The museum was founded in 2006 by the Centro Studi Colombiani Monferrini (CE.S.CO.M), an association set up in 1997 to promote the study of the life and deeds of Christopher Columbus and his links with Cuccaro and the Monferrato. The association organised international Columbus congresses in 1999 and 2006. The museum was inaugurated on 18 June 2006 by Doña Anunciada Colón de Carvajal, a direct descendant of the navigator.
With a scientific and popular-education display, the museum sets out to explain the connection between Columbus and the castle of Cuccaro, as supported by the scholars of the association. The centrepiece of the route is the reconstruction of a hypothetical family tree. On the first floor is the picture gallery, where paintings and sculptures donated by artists inspired by the life and deeds of the Admiral are displayed.
