About the museum
Villa Vidua is an 18th-century residence built by the lords of Conzano on a 15th-century structure, in the upper part of the historic centre, overlooking the former parade ground (piazza d’Armi), today Piazza Australia. It was the home of the explorer Carlo Vidua, who died in Indonesia in 1830, and of Pio Gerolamo Vidua, Count of Conzano and minister of Vittorio Emanuele I di Savoia.
After the end of feudal rights the building housed a parish nursery school until the 1970s. In 1996 the Municipality of Conzano bought the villa, restored it and turned it into a cultural centre.
The south façade is characterised by a series of loggias. The interiors preserve many frescoes, some attributed to Pietro Ivaldi, and the “Chinese salon” (salone cinese), known for its decoration inspired by the East. Today the villa hosts exhibitions, lectures and public events, as well as a museum route dedicated to the life and travels of Carlo Vidua.
