About the museum
The museum, inaugurated in 1995 at Macchia di Giarre, is an ethnographic facility dedicated to preserving the memory of everyday farming life on the Etna area. In five large rooms, the spaces of a farmhouse (masseria) and the dwelling of an Etna farmer of the last century have been carefully reconstructed.
On display are farm tools, a spindle and distaff from 1750, a loom, a reel, garments (baby clothes, wedding dresses, and clothes for patron saint festivals and Sundays), embroidery and a valuable series of daguerreotypes and old photographs. The display is designed to work also as a “living” museum, able to bring back to life the traditional costumes linked to popular festivals.
