About the museum
Villa Santa Maria, in the Sangro valley, is known as the “city of cooks” and hosts a hotel school. The museum, owned by the municipality, tells the story of the town’s cooks who worked in the great hotels of the world and in aristocratic households, from the ancient culinary traditions of the valley to chefs who became entrepreneurs.
Originally the museum occupied a first-floor room in Via Roma, with photographs and documents on the history of the hotel school. In 2019 it moved to Casa Caracciolo, in the historic centre in Via Supportico, in the rooms of the former San Francesco Caracciolo kindergarten.
The new site has four rooms with mannequins of cooks, waitresses and hostesses, a table laid for different occasions, utensils, and photographs and documents about the town’s cooks and waiters.
