About the museum
In 1872 Italy was among the world leaders in the production of raw silk, in competition with China and Japan, and Meldola, together with Como, earned a reputation for the quantity and quality of its silk production. The museum, dedicated to Ciro Ronchi, a great silk spinner from Meldola, recovers a local tradition of three centuries that played a leading role in the economic, social and cultural development of the town.
It holds rich documentation together with the tools of silk processing, which make it possible to learn the history of a sector that is now little known, and an up-to-date and comprehensive bibliography on sericulture and the silk industry. Experts from the Gruppo Entomologico Naturalistico Meldolese are available to explain to visitors the history and importance of sericulture in Meldola.
