About the museum
The Museo del Castello opened in 2008 in the rooms, cellars, keep and courtyard of the Rocca Sforzesca in Bagnara di Romagna, a 14th-century fortress fully restored to become a museum and cultural space.
The first-floor section tells the history of Bagnara and its territory through panels, images and archaeological finds from the Bronze Age to the Roman period and the Middle Ages; the site of the Prati di S. Andrea, where the original fortified village stood, is part of this story. The second route, in the keep, documents the history of the castle and the phenomenon of incastellamento (the building of fortified settlements) in the Bassa Romagna.
The keep also houses an educational workshop, a panoramic terrace and the “Archivio della memoria di Bagnara”, with reproductions of documents, historical maps and photographs of the town's urban development.
