About the museum
The Liverino collection began in 1934, almost by chance, when Basilio Liverino, then sixteen years old, started collecting objects in coral. Over time the collection grew thanks to the collector's travels to many parts of the world. The Liverino family has worked coral in Torre del Greco since 1894 and is now in its fifth generation.
The collection comprises over a thousand pieces, including sculptures and jewellery in coral and semi-precious stones from different regions, from the East to the West, and in some cases dating back to the sixteenth century. The museum is presented as a casket hollowed out in the heart of the volcanic land of Vesuvius, where works of great craftsmanship are kept.
