About the museum
The museum is housed in premises adjoining the Cathedral of San Giorgio and in the former canonry, and is laid out over several floors. From the reception hall, two rooms with information on the historical events of the places of worship dedicated to Saint George can be reached; after a small courtyard, a section with stone sculptures from the church follows.
On the first floor, in three rooms, a selection of the “Tesoro di San Giorgio” is displayed, with pieces such as the Byzantine enkolpion with relics of Saints Peter and Paul and the silver processional cross by Lucio Arizzi from the 16th century. The Sala della Collegiata presents portraits of the most important singing parish priests (parroci cantori) of the Insigne Collegiata di San Giorgio, with staffs and vestments. The visit is completed by an oil painting of Saint George by Matteo Battaglia, author of the frescoes in the cathedral’s sacristy.
