About the museum
The museum was opened to the public in 1978 by the cultural association “Serafino Amabile Guastella” and reconstructs, with great attention to detail, the craft and peasant environment of the County of Modica. It holds a heritage of original tools, furnishings and household objects that the Modican tradition regards as a symbol of its identity.
Visitors walk through the reconstructed workshops of the carpenter, tinsmith, barber, plate mender, confectioner, saddler, rope-maker, basket-maker, tailor, stonemason, quarry worker, shoemaker, blacksmith, cartwright and beekeeper. The route is completed by the reconstruction of a typical rural dwelling, the “massaria”. The objects belong to the association and are protected by an ethno-anthropological restriction, established by decree no. 7121 of 6 July 1996 of the regional department for cultural heritage.
