About the museum
The Museo del Ferro e della Chiave is housed in the former Ufficio delle Miniere (mining office) in Cibiana di Cadore. It was set up with the work of volunteers, who collected tools, artefacts and moulds. The municipality and the volunteers renovated it in 2015.
The route traces the extraction of iron from the Carsiè and Ronzei mines, active until 1770, and metalworking in Cibiana, documented from the 15th century, when the village played an important role in the iron trade with the Republic of Venice.
One part is devoted to the evolution of keys, from the first ones forged from a single piece of iron to modern models, with unfinished examples donated at each stage of production. A section presents the company Errebi, heir to a trade that once numbered around sixty workshops in Cibiana.
