About the museum
The museum is housed in Palazzo Boyl, a neoclassical building in the Piedmontese style with a red façade, built at the beginning of the 19th century by the family whose name it bears. In the 19th and 20th centuries the palazzo hosted noblemen and men of letters.
The permanent exhibition illustrates about two hundred years of clothing and adornment in the Campidano di Oristano. On show are women’s dresses from Oristano, Samugheo, Busachi and Cabras, with buttons, filigree and jewellery in silver and coral, together with fabrics such as brocade, orbace and linen.
The rooms include sections on general materials, costume, jewellery, photographic enlargements, brocade and posters. There are large reproductions of paintings by 19th- and early 20th-century artists who depicted local life, and mannequins in everyday poses accompanied by captions.
