About the museum
The Museo del legno, also known as the xiloteca (xylotheque), is located in the experimental teaching chestnut grove of Granaglione, in the municipality of Alto Reno Terme, and opened in May 2022. The estate was bought in 2003 by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna as part of the Progetto Appennino.
The collection is housed in a restored rural building within the centre and presents thirty wood species in dedicated display cases; each sample is accompanied by a description in Italian and in Braille.
The visit is part of the educational offer of the centre, which includes walks in the chestnut grove, an apiary producing chestnut honey, and illustrated material for young people on chestnuts, bees and pollinators. Visits and educational activities are arranged with the centre; the facility is run by a social cooperative.
