About the museum

The Museo del Mito is a fully multimedia museum that tells myths in a contemporary language, starting from the abduction of Persephone (Kore) by Hades and from the cult of Ceres, the goddess to whom a sacred area of the city was dedicated. It was created to recover and promote the archaeological area of Enna, including the Rocca di Cerere and the Castello di Lombardia.

The museum is housed in the Capannicoli, a historic building in the archaeological area, and opened to the public in October 2020. The project was produced by the cultural start-up Sarterìa together with the municipality of Enna. At the entrance, four virtual reality stations allow a virtual flight over the area; a touch totem presents finds and testimonies on the myth of Kore from other museums in the Enna area; and the main room is equipped with six video projectors and spatial audio. The narration is voiced by the actor Neri Marcorè, with an English version and one for children; the images are by the Sicilian artist Ligama.
