About the museum
The Palazzo della Dogana dei Grani faces Piazza Umberto I, the main square of Atripalda. As early as the 16th century the royal road between Apulia and Naples passed through the town, and the grain trade grew to the point of requiring a dedicated place for exchanges. The building seen today dates from 1883, with a clock topped by two bells and the town's coat of arms above the entrance.
In 1993 the palace was turned into a museum. It displays finds from the archaeological sites of Atripalda and from the ancient Roman city of Abellinum, now protected by an archaeological park. The palace also hosts conferences, concerts and temporary exhibitions.
