About the museum
The Museo del rubinetto e della sua tecnologia tells the story of humanity’s relationship with water and of the innovations—of which taps and valves are fundamental components—that transformed personal care from an elite practice into a mass phenomenon. The narrative links the social history of water to the birth of the tap and valve industrial district in the Cusio.
The first nucleus dates from April 1995, when the permanent exhibition “L’uomo e l’acqua” (Man and Water) opened in the entrance hall of the town hall of San Maurizio d’Opaglio. In July 2005 the materials were moved to two rooms on the ground floor of the old town hall, the first part of the permanent premises: one room is used as an office and archive, the other as an exhibition space for themed shows. The project provides for the complete restoration of the building, with an educational workshop, a lecture hall and a technology library.
The exhibitions set up at the premises illustrate historical pieces, including the reconstruction of a Roman-era mixing tap, and the history of the district’s companies from 1860 to 1965.
