About the museum
The Museo della Cripta is located underground in the church of Maria Santissima Assunta, in Piazza Roma in Monsampolo del Tronto. During repair work on damage caused to the church by the Umbria-Marche earthquake, an archaeological investigation of the crypt in 2003 led to the discovery of a system of medieval pits, which forms the core of the route.
Access is from a side entrance in Via Mazzini. According to the listing published by the Comune, the route is free of architectural barriers and admission is free; the same listing, however, states that the museum is temporarily closed to the public.
