About the museum
The museum is dedicated to the long-standing activity of the stonecutters (scalpellini) of Sant’Ippolito, a town known for its stone working, and is conceived as a dispersed museum. Its core is a documentation centre set up in Palazzo Bracci, which holds panels on quarry work with reconstructions of workshops, a collection of stonecutters’ tools, design drawings from the Fondo Rossi and sculptures made in the local vocational courses.
The centre also has illustrated information sheets with photographs of the main works created in the area. From the documentation centre, a historical and artistic route runs through the municipality and leads to sandstone works on building façades from the 16th to the 18th century.
