About the museum

The Museo del Territorio di Dogna is located in Vicolo del Museo 2, in a building donated to the municipality by a private individual. It arose from the municipal administration’s need to preserve and promote the palaeontological, historical and ethnographic heritage of the valley, and it guides visitors on a journey through space and time.

The palaeontology section on the ground floor is devoted to the discovery of fossil tracks of a predatory reptile from the Triassic, the phytosaur: the rock slab with the footprints, discovered in Valdogna in 1994, is displayed in one room, alongside a laboratory room for school classes and a room dedicated to the Dogna find.

The historical section, on the first floor, traces the events of the First World War with panels in several languages, a model of the war zone, large photographs of Dogna during the conflict and corners showing life at the front. The ethnographic section, on the second floor, deals with the historical, social and environmental reality of Dogna and commemorates the painter Fred Pittino of Dogna, with multimedia content and reconstructions of scenes of everyday life.

The museum also extends outdoors, with the old latteria turnaria (cooperative dairy), the themed trails, the site of the fossil tracks, the fortified line of the Plans, the “Le Morosine” galleries at Mincigos and the memorial routes.
