About the museum
The Museum of the People of the Val Resia was established in 1995 at Stolvizza (Solbica), in the heart of the Val Resia, at the foot of Monte Canino. It is housed in the Casa Buttolo Ploc (Ta-par Plocavi), a traditional 18th-century dwelling restored by the museum itself, which keeps the characteristic features of local architecture on the outside.
Inside, a permanent exhibition reconstructs a traditional kitchen and bedroom from the early 20th century, while the main building is devoted to temporary exhibitions, updated periodically, and to the section on the heritage of oral storytelling. Alongside material heritage, the museum also values intangible heritage: the fables, fairy tales and legends of the valley, with the storytellers and scholars who collected them, in particular the folklorist Milko Matičetov (1919–2014).
The museum is part of the MISMOTU museum network, which promotes knowledge of the traditions of the rural past and the protection of the Slovene dialects of the Friulian valleys. Since 2018, in collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum of Cividale del Friuli and the Comune di Resia, it has also carried out archaeological research, in particular at the site of Ta-na Rado in Stolvizza, and has produced the archaeological map of the Val Resia.
