About the museum
The museum is inside the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, in the historic centre of Étroubles, at the end of the village’s main street. The church is already mentioned in a papal bull of 1177 by Alexander III as dependent on the provostry of the Great St Bernard. The present building, completed in 1814 in place of a smaller church in poor condition, has its altar on the north side; the bell tower, separate from the church, dates from 1480 and was built by the master builder Yolli de Vuetto of Gressoney.
The Museo del tesoro della parrocchia opened on 22 July 2011 and displays sacred and liturgical objects in five display cases placed in the church; a regional tourist listing refers to liturgical finds dating from the 15th century onwards.
