About the museum
The Salone dell'alpinismo grew out of the cross-border cooperation project “Rando sans frontières” and is a space dedicated to the history and evolution of mountaineering. It is located in Valpelline, opposite the parish church, and is part of a small network of similar centres that includes Bionaz and Valtournenche.
The exhibition brings together a collection of climbing equipment, from the first wooden ice axes to modern light-alloy karabiners, alongside photographs of the best-known peaks of the Aosta Valley, which show the terrain and the conditions in which the equipment was used.
The Salone also serves as an information centre: it offers useful advice to those preparing for a hike and promotes a responsible and sustainable approach to the mountains.
