Museo della Fontina e Centro Visitatori
Visitor centre of the Latte e Fontina cooperative in Valpelline, with a small museum on Fontina DOP and a visit to the maturing warehouses.
Have only individual sections read aloud
About the museum
The visitor centre opened in 2003, set up by the Cooperativa Produttori Latte e Fontina in its warehouse at Valpelline, in the hamlet of Frissonière (around 1,150 metres above sea level), to explain the Fontina DOP supply chain to visitors.
The route is divided into three sections devoted to history, the territory and the transformation of milk into cheese, with a film, a photo gallery and a small museum. The visit continues into the warehouse, where staff explain how each wheel is tended by hand during maturing; part of the warehouses is located inside an old copper mine.
The building is on two floors and also includes a space devoted to Valdostan crafts, a projection room, a multimedia station and a shop.
