About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion of Piero Pittaro, who in the early 1970s reclaimed the dry, stony land of Zompicchia to plant the vineyards and build the winery. Alongside the wine business, Pittaro wanted to save from destruction the tools, books and objects of the wine culture and keep them as a record of the work of earlier generations.
The collection began with old prints and books on viticulture, oenology and agriculture, which now form a library. It then extended to cellar equipment, glass, furniture and objects with Bacchic symbols. Over 9,000 pieces are displayed, arranged by theme: the library, the prints, the collection of walking sticks, the “glass collection”, the workshops and the porcelain bottles.
The route presents wine vessels from different periods and places, from Roman amphorae to Biedermeier glasses and Murano glass, together with chalices and flasks for religious use. Reconstructed rooms with period objects, including a cellar, a tavern, a workshop for weights and measures, a cooper's workshop, a cork workshop, a distillery and a glassmaker's workshop, complete the visit.
