Special exhibition

I Bagliori dell'Acciaio

More than 300 replicas of historical weapons from the collection of Fulvio Del Tin, from the Iron Age to the seventeenth century, linked to history, cinema and the craft tradition of Maniago; the exhibition can be visited until June 2027.

About the museum

The museum tells the story of the metalworking and cutlery tradition of Maniago, known as the city of blades. The idea took shape in the 1980s, when the Associazione Pro Maniago organised the first historical and sample exhibitions of the cutlery trade, and a committee promoted the conference “Un Museo a Maniago”. The museum was officially established by the town council on 30 August 1994 and opened in the former Filanda building, where it remained until 2005.

Today the museum is housed in the large industrial plant that began operating as Co.Ri.Ca.Ma. in 1907, a landmark of the town's metalworking history. The exhibition route was designed on the basis of a museum anthropology project of the University of Udine, with the aim of bringing scientific knowledge and technical skills together in their contexts of production, use and consumption.

The collections comprise around 10,000 historical and scientific items, both tangible and intangible: cutting tools, machinery, instruments and work tools, company catalogues, commercial and photographic documentation, and audio and video material, expanded over time through loans, donations and bequests. The museum also includes the Centro di Interpretazione del territorio, a shop with products made in Maniago and a tourist information point. The ticket also gives access to the exhibition “I bagliori dell’acciaio” at Palazzo d'Attimis.
