About the museum

The permanent museum preserves the heritage created by the Mostra dell'Artigianato Artistico Abruzzese, which the Ente of the same name has organised in Guardiagrele every year from 1 to 20 August since its founding in 1970. It is housed in the Palazzo dell'Artigianato, in Via Roma.

The collection consists mainly of the purchase prizes awarded each year to the best works in the exhibition, the works awarded in the biennial competitions such as the Concorso nazionale di Arte Orafa “Nicola da Guardiagrele” and the Concorso internazionale di Arte Fabbrile “La Fucina di Vulcano”, and donations from craftspeople, families and collectors. The works are chosen for their artistic value and for what they reveal about a period of Abruzzo's craft culture.

The route, across eight rooms and the competitions hall, is divided into thematic sections: goldsmithing and metalworking (with the “Presentosa”), ceramics and terracotta, weaving and embroidery, wood and wrought iron. There are also masterpieces by the Bottega Ranieri, the wrought-iron masters Antonio and Felice, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The premises have been renovated and, according to the Ente's website, the museum is currently temporarily closed for works.
