About the museum
The museum reconstructs a traditional farmhouse and documents the rural life and subsistence economy of a family who lived within the walls of Corciano. It was set up in 1976 by local citizens and the Pro Loco, who researched and collected objects linked to farm work, domestic life and craftsmanship. Later donations have enlarged the collection, preserving the memory of the village’s agricultural past.
The route is arranged in three rooms. In the stable-cellar you can see a barrel, a bigoncio (wooden tub), flasks and the museum’s most important piece, a wooden loom with the tools for spinning and weaving. The kitchen centres on the hearth, with a jug, an ascina and a kneading trough (madia). The bedroom displays an iron bed with a mattress of maize leaves, the foot warmer known as “prete” (scaldino), a baby walker, a washstand and embroidered linen.
Old photographs and sacred images complete the display and tell the story of Corciano’s agrarian society in the 19th century.
