About the museum
The museum is housed in the church of San Cristoforo in the centre of Corciano, built in 1537 on the site of and with the remains of an Etruscan shrine (sacello). On the exterior, the sober Renaissance portal dated 1544 stands out, while large reused travertine blocks from the Etruscan-Roman period are visible at the base of the sides.
It is named after the Corciano-born artist Giuseppe Laudati (1669-1737) and gathers the most significant testimonies of the history of the Christian community of Corciano. All the works come from the churches of the town: 15th-century frescoes, canvases by Laudati, sculptures by Romano Alberti da Sansepolcro, precious liturgical furnishings, sacred vestments, ex-votos and finely carved and chased reliquaries.
Popular devotion is documented by the numerous ex-votos, while ancient documents such as bulls, parchments, account books, inventories and grants of indulgences, together with photographs, posters and circulars from more recent parish activity, complete the collection.
