About the museum
The display was set up by the Gruppo Archeologico di Villadose on behalf of the Municipality and opened on 26 August 1990. It documents the existence of a Roman centuriation in the municipal territory, first identified through the interpretation of aerial photographs and then confirmed by surface surveys, which recorded over one hundred Roman-period sites and some settlements of the ancient Veneti.
The museum is on the ground floor of Palazzo Patella, a building in the Ferrarese style dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, which today also houses the town hall. The Patella family were granted the fief of Villadose by Borso d'Este in 1470.
The collection includes coins, bronze objects, ceramics and glass, building materials such as stamped bricks and tiles, funerary material with a reconstructed tomb, and small everyday objects. The display is organised in sections on the centuriation and surveys, the activities of the settlers, ongoing research and finds from the ancient Veneti.
