About the museum
The museum was established in 1995 in the former medieval church of San Giorgio, in Via Gramsci, next to the Liceo Artistico Ulderico Midossi art school. It takes its name from Casimiro Marcantoni, an entrepreneur who founded the Fabbrica Marcantoni (active from about 1920 to 1960).
The original material was collected by local scholars and ceramicists of the association A.C.A.S. Today the collection includes objects, models, archive documents and tools donated by local families, including a traditional potter’s wheel.
The route documents the ceramic production of Civita Castellana from its craft origins in the early decades of the nineteenth century to the consolidation of industrial production in the 1960s and 1970s. The archive covers labour history, industrial archaeology, art history and ceramic technology; a recent reorganisation highlights individual workshops such as Sbordoni, Percossi, Vaselli and Marcantoni.
