About the museum
The museum is on the first floor of the Palazzo dei Priori, in Via delle Torri, seat of the Società Tarquiniense d’Arte e Storia (STAS), founded in 1917 by Giuseppe Cultrera. The building dates from the thirteenth century, with alterations in the fifteenth century, and stands near the medieval Porta San Pancrazio; the name Palazzo dei Priori was given by Luigi Dasti, although there are no documentary sources confirming it. The society owns the building through a donation from the Sacchetti family.
Room 1 displays finds from the butti, the waste pits of the palace investigated by the STAS between 1993 and 1995: ceramics, glass, coins and objects in bone and metal dating from the thirteenth to the seventeenth century. The pit known as “I Stas”, visible in front of the museum entrance, is the only one still accessible.
Room 2 houses the collection of the archaeologist Giuseppe Cultrera.
