About the museum
The museum documents the daily life, work and knowledge of the rural communities of the County of Gorizia and Gradisca between the 16th century and 1918, when eastern Friuli was part of the Habsburg Empire. The website presents it as the largest private ethnographic collection in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The collection comprises more than 25,000 original objects: tools, utensils, furnishings, clothing and teaching materials. The route, which is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, is organised in three strands: work in the fields, arts and crafts (carpenters, blacksmiths, coopers and shoemakers) and daily life.
The reconstructed interiors recreate the places where people worked, grew up, cooked and studied. The museum is linked to the Cortile delle Meridiane (Courtyard of the Sundials), an open-air space with sundials.
